Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the immediate removal of all political appointees and traditional leaders in Amasiri, Afikpo Local Government Area, following a deadly attack in the state.
Those affected include commissioners, management committee members, town union leaders and village heads, while the traditional rulers have been stripped of their titles and their certificates of recognition cancelled. The decision was announced during the governor’s visit to Okporojo community in Osso Edda, Edda Local Government Area, where an attack on Thursday led to the death of at least four people.
The governor went to the area to see the situation himself and address rising tension between communities. Residents of Okporojo, in a video shared widely online, accused some persons from Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area of crossing into Oso-Edda to carry out the attack.
They claimed houses and other properties were damaged during the violence, which has left the community in fear. Sources said Governor Nwifuru cut short an official trip to Abuja and returned to Ebonyi State as soon as he received reports of the incident.
From the airport, he went straight to Okporojo to assess the damage and meet with affected residents.
