The All Progressives Congress has once more shown strong faith in the leadership strength and strategic insight of Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, following his appointment as Secretary of the party’s Central Coordination Committee for the 2026 National Convention.
The influential 73-member committee was set up by the APC National Working Committee to manage and coordinate preparations for the highly significant national convention that is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the future path of the ruling party.

Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Chairman of the committee, while the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will function as Vice Chairman.
According to Yusuf Ali, Focal Person, Digital and Strategic Communications to Governor Buni, the secretary position further “underscores his pivotal role in the internal stability, reforms and strategic coordination of the ruling party”.
Governor Buni presently heads the APC Strategy, Conflict Resolution, and Mobilisation Committee, an organ widely acknowledged for its role in improving unity and cohesion across the party at the national level.

He is also the Chairman of the Committee responsible for the Review of the APC Constitution and the Expansion of the National Executive Committee, assignments considered crucial to the party’s ongoing reform and restructuring efforts.
Recognised across the party as a seasoned administrator and skilled consensus builder, Governor Buni brings to the new responsibility a solid record in party management, reconciliation processes, and institutional growth, having previously chaired several major national committees of the APC.

The formation of the Central Coordination Committee officially signals the start of preparations for the 2026 National Convention, a major political event expected to determine the APC’s leadership framework and strategic direction as it positions itself for future electoral battles.
Governor Buni’s prominent role in the committee further reflects his sustained relevance, influence, and the confidence reposed in him within the party’s highest decision-making bodies.
