Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has dismissed speculation surrounding Cole Palmer’s future at the club, insisting the England international remains settled and content at Stamford Bridge despite reports suggesting he is homesick in London.
Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023, has rapidly established himself as one of the club’s most influential players, emerging as the Blues’ standout performer across his first two seasons in the capital.

However, the 23-year-old Manchester-born forward has endured a frustrating campaign this season, with recurring injuries limiting his rhythm and overall contribution.
Addressing the rumours on Friday, Rosenior said, “I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very happy to be here.” He stressed the club’s long-term commitment to the player, adding, “He’s a huge part of our plans in the long term. He’s an outstanding player. Every player goes through difficult moments in their career in terms of injury. It’s not any reflection of his quality.”

Palmer recently returned to action by scoring from the penalty spot and completing the full match in Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Brentford last weekend. However, he was omitted from the squad for Wednesday’s Champions League win against Pafos due to a lingering groin issue.
Although Palmer has since resumed training and could feature in Sunday’s away fixture against Crystal Palace, Rosenior indicated that the club will continue to manage his workload carefully until he fully regains match fitness.
“My job, the club’s job, is to get him to a place where he can consistently perform at the level he wants to,” Rosenior said. Reflecting on Palmer’s recent frustration, he added, “There was frustration in the Brentford game, not because he wasn’t happy, but because he was in pain and couldn’t perform to the level he wanted to for the club.”

The Chelsea boss also emphasised the importance of protecting the player during his recovery phase, saying, “He’s a great kid but we have to make sure we look after him in the right way. That’s why I haven’t involved him in the last game.”
Chelsea currently occupy sixth place in the Premier League table and are just two points behind fourth-placed Liverpool as they push for qualification for next season’s Champions League.
What you should know
Cole Palmer has quickly become a central figure at Chelsea since his move from Manchester City in 2023, earning praise for his creativity, composure and goal contributions.
This season, however, injuries have disrupted his momentum, prompting careful management by the club’s medical and coaching staff. Despite speculation about his happiness, Chelsea insist Palmer remains committed and valued as a long-term project.
The club’s cautious approach reflects a broader strategy to preserve key players’ fitness as they chase Champions League qualification, with Palmer expected to play a major role once fully fit.
