The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party has declared invalid the suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, insisting that the action has no standing within the party’s constitutional framework.

Dungurawa was reportedly suspended on Monday by executive members of the NNPP in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, who accused him of creating division within the party and encouraging internal discord.

Following the development, the party’s Kano State executive committee on Tuesday announced the appointment of Abdullahi Abiya as acting chairman.

However, in a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP rejected the suspension, describing it as “misplaced, undemocratic, null and void, and entirely without effect.” The party said the move amounted to a serious breach of party discipline and constituted gross anti-party conduct, in violation of provisions of the NNPP constitution.

Johnson further described Dungurawa as a “dedicated, diligent, and responsible chairman,” noting that his leadership and consistent performance had played a major role in strengthening and expanding the party’s presence in Kano State.

NNPP NWC DENOUNCES THE PURPORTED SUSPENSION OF IT’S KANO STATE CHAIRMAN, ALHAJI HASIMU DUNGURAWA: STATES THAT IT IS AN ILLEGALITY!

The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) condemns in the strongest terms the purported suspension of the Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, stating that such action is misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever.

It will be recalled that some questionable executive members of the NNPP in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, had allegedly announced the purported suspension of Hashim Dungurawa. Their action indeed amounts to a gross anti-Party activity as it violates the extant provisions of the Party’s constitution.

The statement praised Hashimu Dungurawa as a conscientious, hardworking, and dutiful chairman whose leadership and performance over time have been remarkable and contributed to the progress of the Party in Kano State.

What you should know

The NNPP’s rejection of Hashimu Dungurawa’s suspension highlights ongoing internal tensions within the party’s Kano State chapter.

By declaring the action invalid, the National Working Committee has reasserted its authority over party discipline and constitutional procedures. The development underscores the importance of adherence to party rules in resolving internal disputes, especially in politically strategic states like Kano.

It also signals the NWC’s intention to protect its leadership structure from actions it considers unconstitutional, as the party continues to consolidate its position ahead of future political contests.
