The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has delivered certificates of expulsion to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and 10 other previously expelled members.

National Chairman Tanimu Turaki confirmed this after the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja.

He stated that the affected individuals include the embattled National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu; the Legal Adviser, Kamarudeen Ajibade; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa; Austin Nwachukwu; Abraham Amah Nnanna; George Turna; and Chief Dan Orbih, all of whom were expelled during the party’s national convention in Lagos.

Turaki explained that original certificates were dispatched via courier to officially notify the recipients of their expulsion. He noted that Nigerian law prohibits holding membership in multiple political parties, and the certificates would serve as evidence for the expelled members when registering with new parties. According to him, “those parties will not accuse them of trying to belong to more than one political party.”

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and relevant government institutions to take note, adding that public disclaimers would soon be issued to inform the public that anyone engaging politically with these individuals does so at their own risk.

Makinde-led PDP

Turaki also revealed that the NWC reviewed ongoing court cases involving the party, including suits related to the “unlawful and illegal” closure of the party’s national offices, Legacy House and Wadata Plaza. He said legal briefings showed the party was on strong footing and expected the law to prevail.

He affirmed that the NWC remains committed to fulfilling its role as Nigeria’s leading opposition platform and intends to offer Nigerians a strong alternative and credible leadership ahead of 2027.

What you should know

The PDP has formalized the expulsion of Wike and 10 others by issuing certificates confirming their removal.

The move aims to prevent dual party membership and clarify their political status.

The party insists legal processes are in its favor and plans to strengthen its opposition role ahead of the 2027 elections.
