The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has announced its commitment to empowering over 4.5 million women across the country through the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU). Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim stressed the need for swift action in implementing the initiative, citing an 18-month delay in its execution. She emphasized that this project aligns with the broader goal of empowering 10 million women under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Approved in June 2023, the NFWP-SU focuses on economic inclusion, financial empowerment, and skill acquisition to enhance women’s livelihoods. The World Bank allocated $500 million to support the project, making it the second loan granted under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The minister called on state governments to prioritize recruiting quality staff and establishing effective structures to drive the project forward.

With a presidential launch expected in the coming month, the government remains committed to ensuring the project’s success. Sulaiman-Ibrahim reiterated that the beneficiaries are not just statistics but individuals who play a crucial role in the nation’s economy. The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Maryam Keshinro, also underscored the importance of equipping women with the necessary tools to thrive.
