The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle to oversee the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad.
This was announced in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Friday. The appointment is part of the IGP’s broader strategy to enhance security and crime prevention across Nigeria.
CP Shogunle, a seasoned officer with vast experience in operations and public relations, will lead the SIS in addressing various security challenges while also ensuring the protection of schools and effective election monitoring.
Additionally, CSP Chima Ogarashi has been appointed as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO), tasked with overseeing maritime security operations and enforcing maritime laws.
As part of these security enhancements, the police force is set to unveil 25 newly acquired gunboats and plans to procure additional maritime safety equipment. The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the police to safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructures across the country.
