President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a detailed security report from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on the ongoing military operations and overall security situation in the North-East region.

This meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, marked the first official engagement between President Tinubu and the army chief since his appointment and subsequent decoration as head of the Nigerian Army.

After the briefing, General Shaibu told journalists that he recently visited the North-East to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the operational theatre and evaluate the progress made in the counterterrorism campaign.

He explained that the purpose of his visit to the Villa was to update the President on developments in the region and provide a general overview of national security.

“I just came to brief him on the outcome of my visit to the northeast region and look at other security situations across the country, which is satisfactory within the period,” Shaibu stated.

When asked about what Nigerians should expect following his visit, the Army Chief responded, “Improved security across the country.”

Lieutenant General Shaibu is among the new service chiefs appointed by President Tinubu earlier in the year. Others include General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff.

President Tinubu, during their decoration ceremony, urged the new service chiefs to carry out their duties with a deep sense of patriotism and urgency, reminding them that Nigerians are eager to experience lasting peace and demand tangible results rather than excuses.

He also emphasized the importance of teamwork and technology-driven operations, directing them to work collectively to decisively eliminate security threats.

“Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. We must not allow these new threats to fester,” President Tinubu had cautioned.

What You Should Know
Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s meeting with President Tinubu underscores the administration’s focus on strengthening security in the North-East and beyond.

The Army Chief’s assurance of “improved security across the country” reflects ongoing efforts to curb terrorism and armed conflicts.

Tinubu’s leadership has prioritized collaboration, modernization, and swift action among the service chiefs to ensure national stability and peace.
