Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have commenced movement to their respective polling stations in Awka South Local Government Area ahead of today’s Anambra Governorship Election.
As early as Saturday morning, INEC staff were seen departing from St. Matthew Catholic Church in Awka South to various polling units. At the Community Primary School, Amawbia, which covers Wards 01 and 02, ad hoc officials arrived at exactly 7:07 am. Buses loaded with voting materials were also observed leaving the venue as the staff proceeded to their assigned locations.

According to INEC, a total of 2,802,790 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots across 5,718 polling units spread across the state’s 21 local government areas. The election is being conducted across three senatorial districts, with sixteen candidates contesting for the governorship seat.

Among the top contenders are the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP), and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

INEC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process across the state.
