The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations by its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, that his signature was forged on official letters addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the forgery claim as unfounded. He clarified that Senator Anyanwu personally signed the letters notifying INEC of the date, time, and venue of the party’s forthcoming elective convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ologunagba presented documents and communications as evidence, including exchanges between Senator Anyanwu and other members of the party’s leadership, as well as his correspondence with the contact and mobilisation committee where he served as secretary.

He stressed that these records clearly demonstrated Anyanwu’s involvement and authorization in the convention planning process, countering claims of signature falsification.

The controversy began when Senator Anyanwu petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector General of Police, alleging that his signature had been forged on the correspondence sent to INEC.

However, the PDP insists that there was no forgery, reiterating that the letters were legitimately signed and transmitted through proper party channels.

What You Should Know

The alleged forgery scandal within the PDP stems from letters sent to INEC regarding the party’s upcoming convention in Ibadan.

While Senator Anyanwu claims his signature was falsified, the PDP leadership maintains that he personally endorsed the documents. The dispute underscores growing internal tensions within the party as it prepares for its key elective convention next month.
