US President Donald Trump on Tuesday honored the late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk with America’s highest civilian award, describing him as a “martyr for truth and freedom” during an emotional ceremony at the White House.
The event saw Trump, 79, present the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Kirk’s widow, Erika, who wept as the president praised her late husband’s legacy. Trump likened the 31-year-old conservative figure to historical and spiritual icons such as Socrates, Saint Peter, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr.

Addressing an audience filled with leading conservative figures, Trump vowed to intensify his crackdown on what he described as radical left-wing extremism in the wake of Kirk’s assassination.
“In the wake of Charlie’s assassination, our country must have absolutely no tolerance for this radical left violence, extremism, and terror,” Trump declared. “We’re done with the angry mobs, and we’re not going to let our cities be unsafe.”
The US State Department announced on the same day that it had revoked visas of at least six foreign nationals who had “celebrated the heinous assassination” online. Officials cited posts made by individuals from Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, and Paraguay, where Kirk was labeled “racist” and “xenophobic.”
According to the department, a German national also lost their visa after posting, “When fascists die, democrats don’t complain.” The move follows a pattern of politically charged visa cancellations by the Trump administration, including those targeting demonstrators involved in Gaza-related protests on American university campuses.

Kirk, a father of two and a prominent conservative voice, was fatally shot last month on a Utah college campus. His death prompted an outpouring of grief among right-wing circles and spurred Trump to deploy National Guard troops to several Democrat-led cities as part of a broader law-and-order campaign.
The White House ceremony drew several high-profile attendees, including visiting Argentinian President Javier Milei and a number of conservative media personalities.

In her tearful remarks, Erika Kirk thanked Trump for returning early from a Middle East peace trip to honor her husband on what would have been his 32nd birthday. “You have given him the best birthday gift he could ever have,” she said, visibly emotional.
She added that her late husband, who leveraged massive followings on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to promote conservative causes, “would probably have run for president” had he not been assassinated.
Authorities have charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson with Kirk’s murder. He faces the death penalty if convicted.
