Following the wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu, former PDP National Secretary Sunday Udeh-Okoye has expressed strong confidence that the ruling party will dominate the 2027 presidential election in the state.
Udeh-Okoye, who recently joined the APC, predicted a landslide victory for the party, asserting that it has now gained full political control in Enugu.
“In the next election, it will be a landslide for the APC in Enugu,” he declared confidently.
When asked if the APC could still prevail should Peter Obi contest again in 2027, Udeh-Okoye maintained that the ruling party would win “no matter who is on the ballot.” He argued that Obi’s previous success in Enugu during the 2023 presidential election was due to the absence of a strong APC structure in the state at the time.
“Those who win election for the party as at that moment, we were not in APC. Now all of us are in APC…anybody you like field in any political party, I assure you in Enugu State APC will win,” he said.
The former PDP leader dismissed claims that the Southeast would never vote for the APC, insisting that the Enugu State Government now has the resources and political strategy to mobilize voters effectively.
According to Udeh-Okoye, the perception that Ndigbo are hostile toward the APC stemmed from the alleged neglect of the region during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure. He added that with Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the APC, that sentiment is changing rapidly.

He also lauded Governor Mbah for what he described as “remarkable delivery on his campaign promises,” emphasizing that the APC has gained significant grassroots support under his leadership.
With Mbah’s defection, three out of the five Southeastern states—Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu—are now under APC control, while Abia and Anambra remain governed by the Labour Party (LP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), respectively.
Udeh-Okoye further revealed that another Southeast state could soon join the APC fold. When asked which of the two non-APC states would make the move, he simply responded, “I don’t know.”
