The Obidient Movement has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to rally behind Peter Obi instead of joining the 2027 presidential race.

The appeal comes after a private meeting between Jonathan and Obi on Thursday. Following the meeting, Obi shared photos on his X handle, describing Jonathan as “a very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader.” He noted that their conversation focused on Nigeria’s current challenges.

Although speculation has grown that Jonathan might contest in 2027, he has yet to officially declare his intentions.

The Obidient Movement, however, has urged him to prioritize fairness and national progress by stepping aside.

Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the movement, emphasized that while both Jonathan and Obi are respected figures, Obi remains the clear choice of millions of Nigerians hoping for a fresh political direction.

“They have been friends for a long time. The meeting was for them to fraternise and discuss how to rescue Nigeria.

“But for us in the Obidient Movement, it would be great if Jonathan remains the respected statesman he is known for. He has done his best as President, he is respected, and this is the time for him to support his brother,” Tanko stated.

What You Should Know

The Obidient Movement is a strong support base for Peter Obi, who gained prominence during the 2023 presidential election as a leading opposition figure.

Their latest call for former President Goodluck Jonathan to step aside reflects their belief that Obi embodies the political change many Nigerians desire.

While Jonathan remains respected for his past leadership, Obi’s youthful, reform-driven image continues to resonate with citizens seeking a new direction for the country.
