The 2025 US Open quarter-finals on Tuesday could see Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic advance toward a marquee semi-final showdown, while Aryna Sabalenka strives to continue her title defense journey.

Men’s Draw: Alcaraz vs. Lehecka, Djokovic vs. Fritz

Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish second seed, remains the only male player yet to lose a set in the tournament as he pursues a second US Open crown and his sixth Grand Slam title.

The 22-year-old faces Jiri Lehecka, the Czech 20th seed, who is competing in only his second major quarter-final. “Against a player like Carlos you need to bring your best,” said Lehecka. “He’s one of the two biggest challenges right now in tennis.” Lehecka previously beat Alcaraz on hard courts in Doha, though Alcaraz prevailed in a three-set match at Queen’s Club in June.

The victor of this match will meet either Novak Djokovic, who holds 24 Grand Slam titles, or Taylor Fritz, the 2024 US Open finalist and the last American male in the draw.

Djokovic, undefeated in 10 prior encounters with Fritz, acknowledged his opponent’s potential: “Taylor definitely is one of the guys that no doubt has a game, has a potential to be a Grand Slam winner.” Despite a strong showing against Jan-Lennard Struff, the 38-year-old Djokovic has shown signs of physical strain in recent Grand Slams.

Fritz, seeking home crowd support, said, “Hopefully the crowd is really going to get behind me now because I am the last (American) guy.”

Women’s Draw: Sabalenka vs. Vondrousova, Pegula vs. Krejcikova

Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, takes on former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the evening session at Arthur Ashe Stadium, aiming to become the first woman to defend the US Open title since Serena Williams’ three consecutive wins from 2012 to 2014.

Sabalenka embraces her No. 1 ranking pressure: “I think pressure is part of our lives, and I think pressure is normal.” Jessica Pegula, last year’s finalist, opens Tuesday’s play against Barbora Krejcikova, a two-time Grand Slam champion.

Pegula, who struggled with form before the tournament, credited a relaxed mindset to a night out: “I felt terrible coming into this tournament, honestly.” Krejcikova, who saved eight match points against Taylor Townsend in the round of 16, reflected on her recovery from a back injury: “Just four months ago I was off the court, I couldn’t play, I didn’t know if I will ever be back.”

What You Should Know

On September 2, 2025, the US Open quarter-finals feature Carlos Alcaraz, unbeaten in sets, against Jiri Lehecka, and Novak Djokovic, with a perfect 10-0 record against Taylor Fritz, with a potential semi-final clash looming.

Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion, faces Marketa Vondrousova, while Jessica Pegula takes on Barbora Krejcikova, who staged a dramatic comeback in the previous round. No woman has defended the US Open since Serena Williams’ 2012–2014 run.

Matches are set for Arthur Ashe Stadium, starting with Pegula vs. Krejcikova, followed by Alcaraz vs. Lehecka, Sabalenka vs. Vondrousova, and Djokovic vs. Fritz, with high stakes as players vie for semi-final spots.
