Turkish media on Saturday reported that two Dutch teenagers were discovered dead in their hotel room in Istanbul, while their father was rushed to the hospital in shock.

The boys, aged 15 and 17, were found unresponsive by police and paramedics at a hotel in the Fatih district, near the Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar, according to NTV television.

“When they arrived, ambulance paramedics noted the two children were deceased. The father was taken to hospital by ambulance,” the channel stated.

The family had been vacationing in Turkey and were believed to have visited the Taksim district for dinner. According to Haber Turk, the 57-year-old father told police that although he accompanied his sons, he “did not eat.”

Later that evening, after returning to the hotel, the father attempted to reach his sons but got no response. Hotel staff member Mehmet Kirdag recalled the moment of discovery:

“When I knocked at the door and entered, the two sons were dead, one of them in bed, the other on the floor… When paramedics arrived, the two young men were deceased. The father was in a state of shock,” he said.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with suspicions that the tragedy may be linked to a restaurant meal consumed earlier.

What you should know

The sudden deaths of the two Dutch teenagers in Istanbul remain under investigation, with suspicions tied to a meal reportedly eaten in Taksim.

Their father, who did not eat, survived but was hospitalised in shock.
