Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC) with immediate effect, as part of political and administrative changes ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
In a statement released late Sunday, the Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Adubiaro, confirmed that the dissolution affects all of the governor’s appointees, who have been directed to hand over to the permanent secretary or the most senior civil servant in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
Adubiaro noted that the move does not apply to certain officials, including the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as well as commissioners in key ministries such as Health and Human Services; Agriculture and Food Security; Education; Works; and Trade, Investment, Industry, and Cooperatives. Special Advisers on Special Education and Social Inclusion, and on Lands, Survey, and e-GIS, are also exempted.
Additionally, all Directors General serving as members of the State Executive Council will retain their positions. These include the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), the Director General for SDGs and Project Monitoring, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
“Governor Oyebanji thanks the affected members of the State Executive Council and wishes them success in their future endeavours,” Adubiaro stated.
Oyebanji, who was sworn in on October 16, 2022, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has made clear his intention to seek re-election next year.
