Manchester United have secured the signing of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, marking their third major attacking acquisition of the summer.
The 22-year-old joins the Premier League giants on a five-year contract in a deal valued at up to £74 million, including a guaranteed £66.3 million and additional performance-based add-ons.
The move finalises an overhaul of United’s forward line after last season’s underwhelming attacking performances. Sesko follows the arrivals of Matheus Cunha (£62.5m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£65m plus £6m add-ons) as part of the club’s push to reignite their goal-scoring threat.
“Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Benjamin Sesko has joined the club, subject to registration,” the club said in a statement.
Sesko, who has netted 16 goals in 41 appearances for Slovenia, expressed his excitement about the project at Old Trafford. “The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future. When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon,” he said.
The forward was also a target for Newcastle United, but despite offering European football, the Magpies were unable to secure his signature. Sesko explained that he was drawn to the atmosphere at United and the vision outlined by manager Ruben Amorim.
“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created,” he noted. “It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions. I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben and connecting with my team-mates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together.”
