Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has called on former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The appeal was made during Obi’s courtesy visit to the Government House in Bauchi.
“We want you to come back to PDP. Please come back, that is where you belong. Don’t go to where there is disarray,” Mohammed urged, stressing the importance of consolidating political strength.
The governor emphasised the need for opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), PDP, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to form a united front against the current administration, which he criticised for a lack of planning and prioritising politics over governance. “We don’t hate the present administration, we wish they will do better. As I discussed with you, there is no budget, there is no plan, and everything is about politics from day one. We have to unite as the opposition, swallow our ego and interests so that we can present a common front to confront the goliath,” Mohammed stated.
In his response, Obi did not dismiss the idea of future collaboration with the Bauchi governor, saying, “We are working together; we are not separate. I believe that right now we are going through difficulties in all the parties, so what we are trying to do is to navigate where we will come together and do the right thing for the future of our children.”
Beyond the political discussions, Obi engaged in community outreach during his visit. He privately toured educational institutions, awarding ₦15 million in scholarships to students of a nursing college and an Islamiyah school. He also visited Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, where he interacted with students and answered questions on governance and national development.
