Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, as well as that of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his deputy, despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayose made the endorsement during an All Progressives Congress (APC) event held on Monday at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti.
“I want to join all well-meaning Nigerians, particularly Ekiti leaders and followers, to endorse publicly without reservation, the President and Commander of the Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu, for a second term and to equally endorse our Governor, Abayomi Oyebanji, and his deputy for a second term,” Fayose declared.
He described the event as historic, noting that it brought together past governors, state leaders, and National Assembly members from Ekiti.
Dismissing any speculation of his defection to the APC, Fayose reaffirmed his PDP affiliation and referenced his 2014 electoral victory where he won all 16 local government areas of the state.
“Who will for the first time again become the record holder to win in all 16 local governments of Ekiti and win in all the 177 wards of Ekiti? That is taken for granted. But when we get to the field, we will contest and see each other,” he said.
Despite his criticisms of the APC, which he claimed falls short of the PDP in terms of public welfare and service, Fayose pledged his full support for Governor Oyebanji in the forthcoming governorship election, urging Ekiti people to rally behind him.
