The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, is currently developing 250-unit Renewed Hope housing estates in 12 states across the six geopolitical zones of the country, with plans underway to extend this initiative to the remaining 24 states.

During an inspection of the Renewed Hope City and Estate project in Lambu, Kano State, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to ensuring access to affordable housing for all Nigerians.

According to the Minister, the government is also constructing seven Renewed Hope Cities—one in each geopolitical zone and the Federal Capital Territory. The projects in Kano, Lagos, and the FCT are at advanced stages, while preparations for similar developments in the remaining zones (North-East, North-Central, South-South, and South-East) are actively ongoing.

Commending the pace of work at the Kano Renewed Hope Estate, Dangiwa applauded the efforts of the contractors, acknowledging the challenges posed by delayed payments. He gave assurances that the Ministry is addressing the payment issues and promised that contractors would be settled shortly.

He emphasized the importance of meeting the delivery timeline for the Kano 2000-unit Renewed Hope City, which is being executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. The developers were urged to stick to the projected completion date of August 2025.

“Housing provision is in the priority list of this administration. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intends to bridge the housing gap in Nigeria by making housing available and affordable to all categories of Nigerians,” Arc. Dangiwa stated.

In response to the concerns raised by contractors regarding outstanding payments, the Minister reassured them of the government’s commitment to settling all dues promptly.

“I urge you not to despair, as all your payments would be made as soon as practicable,” he noted.

Arc. Dangiwa was accompanied during the site inspection by the Minister of State for Housing, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Yusuf Ata, and senior directors from the Ministry.

What You Should Know

The Renewed Hope housing initiative is a major national project aimed at reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit by constructing affordable housing estates and cities across all 36 states and the FCT. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, the project already covers 12 states with 250-unit estates and is expanding to 24 more.

Additionally, seven Renewed Hope Cities are underway, with the Kano, Lagos, and FCT projects nearing completion. The government, through Public-Private Partnerships, seeks to deliver thousands of housing units while ensuring contractors are paid and deadlines met.
