Professor Yilwatda Nentawe has officially taken the helm as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to promote unity across the party’s structure and strengthen its national presence.

His appointment was formally confirmed during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling party, held on Thursday at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Nentawe declared his commitment to inclusiveness and growth within the APC, stating, “I pledge without hesitation that I will work with everybody in the party…I will expand the party with you.”

The process leading to his emergence as chairman began with a motion by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who currently chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum. During the NEC session, Uzodimma proposed that the party’s national chairmanship be zoned to the North Central region.

Following the zoning proposal, Governor Uzodimma nominated Nentawe for the position, a nomination that was immediately seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

The newly sworn-in party leader, Prof. Nentawe, previously contested as the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 general elections, where he demonstrated widespread support and political visibility in the region.

His appointment is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the APC to strengthen its internal cohesion and maintain nationwide influence amid growing political activity across the country.

Prof. Yilwatda Nentawe brings both academic and political experience to his new role as APC National Chairman.
