Ibrahim Kashim, the former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s 2023 governorship flagbearer, has officially ended his affiliation with the party.
His resignation takes effect from July 21, 2025.
In a letter made public on Monday, Kashim conveyed his appreciation to the PDP leadership for the trust reposed in him, particularly for allowing him to carry the party’s governorship ticket in the last general elections.
Kashim had stepped aside from the 2023 governorship contest in deference to Governor Bala Mohammed, who was seeking a second term. Despite the hurdles usually encountered by incumbents pursuing re-election, Kashim actively supported the governor across Bauchi Local Government Area.
“I have given this matter thoughtful consideration. I hereby formally inform you of my resignation from the PDP,” Kashim stated in his letter. “I intend to pursue other opportunities through which I can earn the people’s mandate to serve them with unwavering dedication, sincerity, integrity, and most importantly, with the fear of Allah SWT.”
Earlier in January 2025, Kashim had relinquished his role as Secretary to the State Government. That decision, according to reports at the time, was influenced by a directive from Governor Bala Mohammed.
While Kashim has not publicly disclosed the exact reasons for his withdrawal from the PDP, nor has he confirmed any immediate political ambitions, strong speculation suggests he may be positioning himself to contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election under a different political platform.
