President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, as the new chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The announcement was made on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, President Tinubu gave his approval for Babangida’s appointment earlier in the day, along with eight other key federal appointments.

Muhammad Babangida, 53, holds a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Switzerland. His academic portfolio also includes an Executive Program on Corporate Governance, which he completed at Harvard Business School in 2002.

In addition to Babangida, the President named several other individuals to significant leadership roles in various federal agencies. Lydia Kalat Musa, from Kaduna State, has been appointed Chairman of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA), while Jamilu Wada Aliyu of Kano State will serve as Chairman of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

Yahuza Ado Inuwa, a former member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, will take over as Chairman of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON). Sanusi Garba Rikiji has been named the Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN), and Tomi Somefun will assume the role of Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).

Other appointments include Abdulmumini Aminu-Zaria as the Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), and Sanusi Musa (SAN) of Kano State, who has been designated as Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR). Rounding out the list is Professor Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto State, who will serve as the Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA).

These appointments reflect President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to restructure key institutions and inject new leadership across Nigeria’s public service sector, with a focus on competence, professionalism, and national development.
