The Nigeria Police Force has initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against 151 of its senior officers as part of a sweeping internal accountability drive aimed at upholding professionalism and rooting out ethical violations within its ranks.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi announced that the internal hearings began on Monday, July 14, and are scheduled to continue until Friday, July 25, 2025. The sessions are being held at the IGP Smart Conference Hall located at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Adejobi disclosed that the implicated officers, who hold ranks from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above, were drawn from various commands and specialized units across the country. They are facing the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), an internal oversight body tasked with investigating and adjudicating allegations of misconduct against senior personnel.
According to the police spokesman, the accused officers are being investigated for a variety of infractions, ranging from violations of professional ethics to breaches of internal rules and conduct guidelines.
“The Force Disciplinary Committee is an essential internal structure responsible for reviewing and adjudicating cases of alleged breaches of professional conduct, misconduct, and ethical violations involving senior officers of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above,” Adejobi said in the statement.
The disciplinary hearings mark a significant step in the Force’s ongoing reforms and are part of broader efforts to enhance integrity, ensure accountability, and instill discipline at the highest levels of the police hierarchy.
Adejobi emphasized that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, remains firmly committed to fostering a culture of ethical behavior and zero tolerance for any form of professional misconduct within the Force. He reiterated that the Nigeria Police under the current leadership will not turn a blind eye to indiscipline, especially among its senior officers who are expected to lead by example.
The Force Disciplinary Committee is expected to assess each case based on its merits, review available evidence, and recommend sanctions where necessary, in accordance with established disciplinary protocols and police regulations.
Observers see this development as a bold attempt to cleanse the upper ranks of the Nigeria Police Force and restore public confidence in an institution that has long battled criticisms over issues of corruption, brutality, and abuse of power. The outcome of the ongoing proceedings is likely to serve as a litmus test for the current administration’s resolve to implement meaningful reforms within the nation’s security apparatus.
