Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima and his delegation in London on Monday, joining the chorus of tributes in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The visit comes as Vice President Shettima carries out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to lead the Nigerian delegation for the repatriation of Buhari’s remains back home for burial. The former president passed away on Sunday at a London hospital following a prolonged illness, aged 82.

Jonathan and Akufo-Addo, both respected statesmen in West Africa, expressed their condolences and praised Buhari’s lifelong commitment to national service and regional stability. They described him as a leader whose dedication to anti-corruption, national unity, and democratic consolidation left an indelible mark on Nigeria and the African continent.

Vice President Shettima’s delegation includes prominent government officials: Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.

As arrangements for the former president’s return to Nigeria continue, the condolence visits underscore the deep regional respect Buhari commanded, not just as a Nigerian leader but as an elder statesman within the ECOWAS sub-region.
