Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Dies in London Clinic

In a solemn announcement on Sunday, July 13, 2025, the family of Nigeria’s former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, confirmed his passing. The news was conveyed in a statement released by his former spokesman, Garba Shehu.

According to the statement, the 81-year-old former leader died earlier in the afternoon at a clinic in London, where he had been receiving medical care. The exact cause of death has not yet been made public.

“INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIR RAJI’UN. The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin,” the statement read.

Buhari held office as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, after previously serving as the country’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985. A prominent figure known for his anti-corruption crusade and firm leadership style, Buhari remained a significant voice in Nigerian political discourse long after his presidency.
