The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has departed for Niger State to visit frontline troops and assess the security situation following a recent intense clash with terrorists in the area.
The visit follows a deadly confrontation between Nigerian Army personnel and terrorists, which led to significant casualties on both sides. A top military source at Army Headquarters confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the COAS is expected to meet with both troops and commanding officers during the visit.
General Oluyede’s mission is to personally evaluate conditions on the ground, provide strategic directives, and reinforce the military’s commitment to ending the threat posed by terrorist groups operating in the region.
The Army Chief has reiterated the military’s resolve to protect civilian lives and property, promising to strengthen the operational response against terror groups that continue to wreak havoc in parts of Niger State and beyond.
His visit is also intended to boost the morale of soldiers who have been engaged in high-risk counterterrorism operations. Sources suggest that the outcome of the visit will help reshape the Nigerian Army’s tactical approach in the region, with increased focus on intelligence, mobility, and civilian safety.
The military has sustained pressure on insurgent groups across the North-Central and North-West regions, and General Oluyede’s presence in the field signals a renewed push to neutralize remaining threats and secure affected communities.
