President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Inspector General of Police to urgently coordinate with all relevant security and intelligence agencies to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the brutal killing of travellers in Plateau State.

The victims, 12 in number, including the father and brother of a groom, were on their way from Zaria in Kaduna State to Jos, Plateau State, when they were ambushed and murdered in cold blood.

Reacting to the news of the attack, President Tinubu condemned the killings in strong terms, describing the act as “unacceptable and barbaric.” The President, visibly angered by the recurring violence in the region, stressed that such actions violate the fundamental rights of Nigerian citizens and threaten the unity of the nation.

He charged the Nigerian Police Force to ensure that the perpetrators are not only tracked down but brought to justice swiftly. “The Government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence,” Tinubu said, adding that this latest tragedy must be used as a turning point to prevent future bloodshed.

He emphasized that the Plateau State Government must cooperate fully with security agencies to investigate the killings and dismantle the networks that enable such violence. The President maintained that the right of all citizens to move freely across the country cannot be compromised by threats of violence or intimidation.

“Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear,” he declared.

The President assured the nation that the culprits will be brought to justice and emphasized that the federal government remains committed to safeguarding lives and promoting peace across every part of the country.

In his message of condolence, President Tinubu extended his sympathy to the families of the victims and also expressed solidarity with the people and government of Kaduna State over the tragic loss.
