The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it had struck a significant underground facility in western Iran’s Khorramabad, located in Lorestan province.

The site, reportedly housing surface-to-surface and cruise missiles, was described by Israel as a strategic asset that had previously been showcased in Iranian propaganda materials.

Brigadier General Effie Defrin, spokesperson for the Israeli military, told reporters, “This is an important site that was even featured in a propaganda video by the Iranian regime in the past,” referencing earlier footage released by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, which highlighted a newly revealed underground missile base.

“It was struck, and the senior officials associated with it have also been eliminated,” Defrin stated, noting that the operation also targeted and destroyed “dozens of other such sites.”

According to the Israeli military, the facility included “storage tunnels for surface-to-surface missiles and cruise missiles as well as multiple launch shafts,” reinforcing the belief that Khorramabad served as a major hub in Iran’s strategic missile network.

Iranian state media confirmed explosions and attacks in Lorestan province, although official Iranian military sources have yet to provide detailed assessments of the damage or casualties at the Khorramabad site.

Growing Casualties and Escalation

The Khorramabad strike is part of a broader wave of Israeli air raids that began in the early hours of Friday. Israeli sources claim that the strikes have killed more than 20 senior Iranian army and Revolutionary Guards commanders, including Iran’s armed forces chief, General Mohammad Bagheri. Additionally, nine nuclear scientists and experts were reportedly killed in the attacks.

Iranian officials put the overall death toll at 78 as of Saturday, but have not confirmed the deaths of the high-profile individuals named by Israel.

This marks one of the most direct and intense escalations in the shadow war between Israel and Iran, prompting concerns about further regional destabilization.

What you should know
Israel’s targeted strike on a missile facility in Iran’s Khorramabad is part of a broader offensive that has reportedly killed high-ranking military and scientific figures. As tensions escalate, the risk of a full-scale confrontation between the two regional powers continues to grow.
