Real Madrid has officially secured the services of highly rated teenage midfielder Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, marking yet another bold investment in the future of the club.
The 17-year-old playmaker will remain with his Argentine side through the summer, including participation in the Club World Cup in the United States, before completing his switch to the Spanish capital.
In a statement released on Friday, River Plate confirmed that the total value of the deal exceeds €63 million (approximately $72 million), with €45 million going directly to the club and the remaining balance primarily absorbed by taxes and associated costs.
The transaction was activated through the player’s release clause, jointly exercised by Real Madrid and Mastantuono himself.
Real Madrid announced that the attacking midfielder will join them officially on 14 August 2025, and he is contracted to remain at the club until 30 June 2031, highlighting the long-term faith the Spanish giants have placed in the rising star.
Mastantuono made headlines earlier this month when he became the youngest player ever to feature in an official match for Argentina’s senior national team. His debut came during a World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Chile, further solidifying his status as one of South America’s most promising young talents.
River Plate, in their farewell message, expressed gratitude for the player’s journey through their academy ranks and his recent contributions to the senior team. “Thank you, Franco, for your performance and talent. It has been a privilege to see you grow at the club,” the statement read. “We wish you all the best in this new era, which comes after the Club World Cup.”
The midfielder made his first-team debut for River in January 2024 and quickly rose through the ranks with his creativity, vision, and ability to dictate the pace of play—traits that made him a prime target for Europe’s elite clubs.
