Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may become a political “carcass” if it fails to act swiftly and decisively to address its ongoing decline.

Despite his strong criticism, Fayose firmly restated his commitment to the PDP, dismissing any speculation about joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday night, Fayose acknowledged the current administration’s efforts, noting that while improvements will take time, President Tinubu has shown determination in addressing the nation’s challenges.

He stressed the need to commend the President where due, saying that expecting instant results is unrealistic. According to Fayose, the government’s early steps, particularly in economic reforms and currency policy, show promise.

Fayose also highlighted his longstanding support for President Tinubu, dating back to his time as Ekiti governor, stating that his encouragement of the President is based on performance, not political allegiance.

On the trend of PDP members defecting to the APC, Fayose said he remains committed to the PDP and will never cross over to another party, regardless of the challenges the opposition faces.

Though no longer active on the national political stage, Fayose emphasized that he had contributed significantly while in office and continues to offer support in his capacity. He warned, however, that without immediate reforms, the PDP risks total collapse.

He expressed confidence in Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji, praising his achievements and noting that all former governors support him, regardless of political differences. Fayose emphasized that governance in Ekiti transcends party lines and should focus on unity and development.

During his meeting with Tinubu, Fayose said he sought clarity on Oyebanji’s political future and received reassurance from the President of his continued support for the governor.

What you should know
Ayodele Fayose has reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP while voicing concern over the party’s potential collapse. He praised President Tinubu’s leadership and reaffirmed his support for Ekiti State Governor Oyebanji, underscoring the need for unity and performance-driven governance over party politics.
