The Federal Government has launched an investigation into a viral video alleging the neglect of road accident victims at the Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja.
The disturbing footage, which has drawn widespread condemnation on social media, was recorded by a good Samaritan who claimed to have transported the injured victims to the hospital after finding them on the roadside. In the video, he alleged that hospital staff refused to administer urgent care, with one reportedly citing the absence of gloves as a reason for inaction.
However, later scenes showed hospital staff assisting in moving one of the severely injured victims into the emergency unit, while others, visibly hurt, made their way inside without support.
In response, FMC Jabi’s Public Relations Officer, Obadiah Gana, issued a statement on Sunday confirming that a full-scale investigation is underway. He said preliminary findings show that the emergency department had no shortages of gloves, resuscitation equipment, medications, wheelchairs, or trolleys.
The hospital stated that it is actively engaging with on-duty staff and other stakeholders to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Gana reaffirmed the hospital’s dedication to transparency and quality service delivery. He also noted that FMC Abuja maintains multiple public feedback platforms, including phone lines, QR codes, and email contacts, to encourage accountability and public engagement.
