In anticipation of the upcoming high-profile Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) summit, the Lagos State Government has rolled out a temporary traffic diversion strategy aimed at managing vehicular flow and ensuring heightened security during the event.

The summit is set to take place at two notable venues—Eko Hotel and Suites and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), both located on Victoria Island. The gathering is expected to draw top-level participants including presidents, senior diplomats, and prominent regional figures from various West African nations.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, issued a statement on Monday detailing the temporary transport measures. According to Osiyemi, the adjustments are designed to facilitate seamless movement and enforce security protocols as the city prepares to host this key diplomatic event.

Commuters traveling through Victoria Island—especially those using major roads such as Ahmadu Bello Way, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, and Ozumba Mbadiwe Road—are strongly advised to follow approved alternate routes to avoid delays and traffic build-up.

The diversion plan also extends to traffic originating from Kofo Abayomi Road, Bonny Camp, and the Independence/McEwen Bridge axis. Drivers are encouraged to utilize nearby connecting streets that lead to Lekki, Lagos Island, and the Mainland to navigate around congested areas.

Osiyemi emphasized that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed in full force, alongside other enforcement units, to manage traffic, guide motorists, and ensure minimal disruptions during the summit.

He urged road users to adhere to traffic directives and remain calm and cooperative, noting that Lagos is stepping into the spotlight to host a critical regional conference focused on fostering economic growth and diplomatic collaboration across West Africa.
