Dangote Industries Limited, led by Africa’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has been crowned the Most Admired African Brand at the 15th annual Brand Africa 100 awards held in Addis Ababa over the weekend.

The Nigerian conglomerate secured three prestigious accolades, including induction into the inaugural Brand Africa Hall of Fame, marking it as the first African company to receive this honor. Aliko Dangote himself was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his transformative contributions to African industrialization and economic growth.

The awards, determined through an independent, consumer-led survey spanning over 30 African countries, underscore Dangote Industries’ profound influence on African consumers and its role in reshaping the continent’s economic narrative.

The company’s induction into the Hall of Fame alongside MTN, M-Pesa, Ethiopian Airlines, and South Africa highlights its consistent excellence among Africa’s top brands over the past 5 to 15 years.

Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer at Dangote Industries, described the honors as a reflection of the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation. “These awards are a testament to the dedication of our team, partners, and stakeholders who share our mission to drive sustainable development across Africa,” Chiejina said.

He also lauded Aliko Dangote’s Lifetime Achievement Award, noting it celebrates his visionary leadership in building a world-class African brand that has transformed industries and created opportunities across the continent.

In his keynote address, Claver Gatete, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, praised Dangote and the Hall of Fame inductees for advancing Africa’s industrial and economic agenda.

Gatete emphasized the need for increased investment in youth-led innovation and regional value chains, proposing a Pan-African Creative Innovation Fund to elevate African brands globally. “Dangote Group, MTN, M-Pesa, and Ethiopian Airlines have set benchmarks in brand leadership and continental impact,” he said.

The 2025 rankings revealed a troubling trend: while African optimism is on the rise, with 68% of Africans expressing belief in the continent’s potential (up from 64% in 2024), only 11% of the Top 100 Most Admired Brands are African, a historic low compared to 14% last year.

Thebe Ikalafeng, Founder and Chairman of Brand Africa, called this decline a “wake-up call” for the continent’s industrialization agenda. “Africans must move beyond belief and actively support Made-in-Africa products,” Ikalafeng urged, stressing the need for African brands to invest in research, innovation, and authenticity to compete globally.

Dangote Industries’ sweeping success at the awards signals its pivotal role in addressing this challenge. Chiejina reaffirmed the company’s commitment to pushing boundaries and delivering value across Africa, inspired by the recognition to further empower communities and drive transformative growth.
