Nigerian sprint hurdler and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, blazed to victory in the women’s 100 meters hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco, clocking an impressive 12.24 seconds, a new meet record.

The 28-year-old broke the previous record of 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018, delivering a season’s best that marked her return to peak form and her first major win of the 2025 season. The performance comes after two fourth-place finishes earlier this year at the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League events.

Amusan had previously claimed a win in March at Jamaica’s Velocity Fest 16, although the field there was considered less competitive. Her commanding victory in Rabat represents a significant bounce-back following a difficult close to the 2024 season, during which she failed to qualify for the final at the Paris Olympics.

Speaking after her win, Amusan credited a change in training focus: “More hurdles practice, because I had been doing more sprinting. After the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference.”

With the hurdles not included in the upcoming Doha Diamond League meet, Rabat offered Amusan a key opportunity to gain momentum heading into the World Championships in Tokyo. She seized it emphatically, reasserting herself as one of the top contenders in the sport.

What you should know
Tobi Amusan’s record-breaking win in Rabat signals a strong comeback after her Olympic disappointment in 2024. With her eyes now on the World Championships in Tokyo, the Nigerian star appears firmly back on track.
