South African singer Tyla is set to etch her name in history as the first African to host the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2025.

The announcement, made by the organizers, has sparked widespread excitement, with the Grammy-winning star poised to helm the 2025 edition of the beloved awards show, which will air live on June 21 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

Tyla, whose meteoric rise has captivated audiences worldwide, expressed her elation on X; she wrote, “I’m really about to host the Kids Choice Awards.” The succinct yet exuberant message resonated with fans, who flooded the platform with messages of anticipation for the 23-year-old’s historic moment.

Known for her genre-blending sound that fuses amapiano, pop, and R&B, Tyla has become a global ambassador for African music, and her role as host underscores her growing influence in the entertainment industry.

The 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, a celebration of achievements in music, film, television, and digital content as voted by fans, will see Tyla not only hosting but also competing for accolades.

She has secured two nominations: Favorite Global Music Star and Favorite Music Collaboration for her track “Show Me Love,” featuring WizTheMc and production duo bees & honey. These nods further cement her status as a trailblazer, following her 2024 Grammy win for Best African Music Performance for the viral hit “Water.”

This year’s nominee lineup is stacked with heavyweights, led by Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, and Lady Gaga, each earning four nominations. Close behind are Selena Gomez, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jelly Roll, and Jack Black, with three nods apiece. The diverse slate reflects the awards’ broad appeal, spanning music, film, and pop culture, all while maintaining its signature family-friendly vibe.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The significance of Tyla’s role extends beyond entertainment. As the first African to host the Kids’ Choice Awards, she is breaking barriers in an industry where African voices have historically been underrepresented.
