President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies, focusing on fleet upgrades, training, and the welfare of service members.
He made the pledge during the induction of two new Agusta 109S Trekker helicopters into the Nigerian Air Force, held at the Presidential Air Fleet terminal of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday.
Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of a well-equipped military in maintaining both national security and democratic stability.
“Let me use this opportunity to assure you all that my administration will continue to support the Nigerian Air Force and indeed other security agencies by giving due attention and priority to fleet modernization as well as training and welfare of our men and women in uniform,” he stated.
He further stressed that his government is committed to continuously modernizing the armed forces, ensuring they are fully equipped and prepared to counter emerging threats. He added that defence capability is key to sustaining democracy and ensuring economic and social progress.
He also pledged greater investment in defence technology, particularly for the Air Force.
“We will continue to invest in cutting-edge defence technologies and provide our military with the resources needed to counter both conventional and assistive weapons,” he said.
President Tinubu acknowledged recent gains made by the military in its fight against terrorists and other criminal elements, commending the personnel for their dedication and urging them to intensify efforts toward completely overcoming the nation’s complex security challenges.
He called for enhanced regional cooperation, especially with neighbouring countries, to tackle cross-border threats more effectively. He cited the multinational effort in the Lake Chad region as a model to be expanded and applied elsewhere.
President Tinubu also urged the armed forces to remain professional and capable of participating in both local and international peacekeeping missions, adapting to global security changes stemming from conflicts across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
He concluded by noting that the induction of the helicopters was more than just a routine upgrade but a clear commitment to bolstering national defence and reinforcing Nigeria’s strategic leadership on the continent.
