The Federal Government has given the green light for the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to officially launch the NIN Authentication (NINAuth) platform, aimed at enabling secure and efficient identity verification.
This was revealed in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications.
Adegoke mentioned that the presidency has also instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt the use of NIN Authentication for identity confirmation and verification purposes.
He clarified that this aligns with NIMC’s responsibility to oversee a reliable national digital identity system for Nigerian citizens and legal residents to verify their identities.
He noted that the introduction of NINAuth—a state-of-the-art service suite offering web, API, and mobile verification—aims to improve data protection, uphold privacy, and streamline access to public services.
“This is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on strengthening the national identity management system.”
“The NIMC NINAuth application is the official service for integration with the commission’s back-end infrastructure.”
“It introduces a robust layer of protection, empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information.”
He also pointed out that users must give clear consent before their data is used for Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures or other forms of verification.
He stated that the platform promotes confidence, transparency, and user control in managing digital identities.
Adegoke added that the NINAuth platform will allow people to securely confirm their identity for important government services such as SIM card registration, replacements, passport applications, tax returns, financial activities, social welfare schemes, driver’s licence renewals, and more.
He further explained that key advantages of the platform include improved data protection from unauthorized access and empowering individuals with control over how their data is shared.
He also noted that the platform ensures convenient access through a secure single sign-on feature for various services.
He emphasized that this development reflects NIMC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing secure and effective digital identity processes, making identity verification in Nigeria more accessible, reliable, and protected.
He explained that the NINAuth platform also supports a secure, scalable, and compatible interface for identity confirmation using API integration.
According to him, the platform allows for real-time verification of NIN records, improving service delivery, encouraging database unification, and ensuring adherence to the National Identity Policy.
He concluded by saying that NINAuth is now the designated platform for all NIN-based identity confirmation and integration services.
“The implementation guide and process flow of the NIMC NIN Authentication are available at https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng,” he said. (NAN)
