The Niger Delta Development Commission has issued a public alert over the operations of scammers promoting fake postgraduate scholarships to unsuspecting individuals.

In a statement made in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Mrs Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, raised the alarm about fraudsters demanding money from members of the public under the guise of helping them secure scholarship opportunities.

“The attention of the NDDC has been drawn to fraudulent emails and messages sent to applicants of the commission’s Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme,” she said.

Thompson-Wakama explained that the fake emails, allegedly sent from [email protected] and claiming to originate from the NDDC’s “Board Registry,” were inviting recipients to a sham document verification and authentication session.

As stated by her, the fake exercise was claimed to be scheduled between May 19 and May 21 at Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

“Members of the public are hereby advised that the NDDC has no affiliation with this fraudulent selection process,” she stressed.

She also made it clear that all legitimate communications regarding the commission’s scholarship programme are issued solely through the official NDDC website: www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng.

“Applicants are strongly advised to disregard any unsolicited messages requesting money, invitation, sensitive information, or offering scholarship placements outside of the official NDDC procedures,” she added.

Thompson-Wakama urged recipients of such emails to immediately notify the appropriate law enforcement bodies for swift investigation and action.

She encouraged interested individuals to stick to verified NDDC communication platforms.

“We also advise former beneficiaries of the commission’s programmes and prospective applicants to verify all information through the NDDC’s official website: www.nddc.gov.ng,” she concluded. (NAN)

What you should know
NDDC has disclaimed any connection with unsolicited scholarship messages circulating online. All official communication comes strictly through its designated portals, and the public is urged to avoid unofficial messages demanding money or personal details.
